Plastic lines and characteristics
Innova pioneered the modern flight‑rating system and offers both baseline and premium plastics. Baseline plastics like DX, KC Pro, JK Pro, Nexus and XT are inexpensive and provide excellent grip but wear in quickly, becoming more understable over time. These grippy plastics are excellent for putters, approach discs and beginners; the softer JK Pro blend seasons quickly and is great for turnover shots. Premium plastics such as Champion and Halo are extremely durable and tend to be more overstable; they require a long break‑in period but retain their flight characteristics for many rounds. Star plastic offers a balance of durability and grip; it is less overstable than Champion out of the box but beats in to a workable feel. GStar and Pro blends provide extra flexibility and grip – GStar is particularly gummy and becomes more flippy in warm weather. In rainy conditions, Innova recommends baseline plastics (DX, XT, Nexus) because Star and Champion lose grip when wet. Innova also releases specialty blends such as Halo Star (a two‑tone Star variant that is more overstable), Echo Star (eco‑friendly Star with extra stability and grip) and limited‑run Blizzard Champion (Champion with micro‑bubbles for lighter weights).
